POLITICAL STABILITY
Costa Rica, a politically stable, pacifist and deeply democratic nation: a perfect context for investing with confidence!
As early as 1948, Costa Rica chose to abolish its army. With far more resources, the state was able to devote them to developing ambitious education and health systems, both of which were successful.
Thus the literacy rate reaches 97.4%, one of the best results of all Latin America (Source UNDP 2016, data 2014).
The infant mortality rate has collapsed and life expectancy is 79.4 years, making it one of the highest in the world (UNDP Source 2016, idem).
As for the social protection system, launched more than 60 years ago, it has drastically reduced poverty and more than 80% of the population benefits today.
It is, among other things, thanks to its progressive choices in health and education, without forgetting of course its successes in the economic field, that Costa Rica knew – contrary to most of its Latin American neighbors – to consolidate its democracy, even making it one of the oldest and most established in Latin America.
